Superbowl Commercials 2013

The annual big budgeted commercials came during the Superbowl but something was a miss. As I watched, there seem to be more commercials for CBS shows and entertainment that actual advertisers. This was especially relevant leading up to the Superbowl Halftime show where all the commercials were promoting CBS shows.

No where did I see any commercial that caught my interest and made me want to hop online and see it again. No commercial made me want to rewind the show just to see it again. There were also some notable advertisers missing from the Super Bowl. There was no Snickers, Verizon, Kia, Coors Lights, Bud Light, Old Spice or Victoria Secret. Instead we saw repeats of NFL, CBS, and Budweiser Black Crown.

Even the movie trailers forego the traditional explosion of summer releases. No Superman or Pacific Rim, and even the Iron Man 3 trailer was nothing too fancy about it. The online trailer for Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness, and The Lone Ranger were not as impressive as indicated by the tease commercials. These commercials failed to make any impact on the media. I was surprised to see new trailers being seen so late in the game. The Budweiser Clydesdale and Samsung commercials made late appearances and were probably the best ones of the bunch. The annual Doritos commercials fell short of expectations and the E-Trade baby made its annual appearance to a rather lack luster idea.

In all, the Halftime show was better than the commercials, which shows the talent of Beyonce and the rather lack of ideas for commercials. Maybe it's just me, but if the commercials for next year aren't memorable, then we can probably note this year as the decline of Superbowl Commercial.
